How to Start a Successful Band
Have you ever thought about or wanted to play in a band before? I know I sure have, and I can remember how scared I was before during and after my first show. Nothing is more fun than being able to share and express yourself to an audience, especially through the medium of music. I mean its everything, the words, the music, the melodies, the beats the live performance. It’s one of the things that makes music totally worth it.
So how about you ? have you ever thought about playing in a band or writing your own songs?
I have taught many students over the last 5 years and I’ve learned that playing in a band or performing and writing your own songs is not for everyone. In fact, the number one reason why I think that my students do not want to start a band is because they do not think it is possible. Well, I am here to tell you that not matter how old you are or how young, or if you have a lot of experience or just starting out that you can play in a band if it is something you truly want.
All sounds good in theory but where does rubber hit the road
The first step to getting a band started is making a decision that it is something that you want to do, and that it is also possible for you to do. The reason for this is that if you do not want it or you do not think it is possible then you wont get started. So after you get those to items handled the next step is going out there and letting yourself do it. For me this is where the most fun happens! you go out and make friends with other musicians and jam. You know you are on the right track if you are having 100% fun!
After you are able to assemble some band members or while you are getting members its time to start learning songs! Now for different people this means different things. Some people want to just play their favorite songs and start a cover band, as where other bands want to write original music and express the true medium of creativity. Whatever your goal is, it is important that you enter this relationship the right way by having a common vision or electing a leader of the band is usually the best choice.
There will be obstacles so prepare yourself now
Starting a band or being in one is a lot like starting a new family. There is a lot that goes into it an have to make sure everybody is happy, having fun, and shares the same vision. Many times a lot that goes into this and treating your band is if it is a business because unless you are doing it just for fun then you will want to grow the band so you are playing bigger and better shows, selling more merch, and writing better songs.
There are a lot of different ways to approach having a successful band and I am just sharing with you my own experience and what I have done. At the end of the day the most important thing is that you get started and keep going when obstacles come your way. One of the best ways to ensure that this happens is to make sure you are all having fun and remember the reasons why you started playing music in the first place. This is a sure fire way to make sure that you guys stick together for years to come and craete memories together that you will never forget.
